The 2011 Scrappy Awards

It's that time of the year again. My favorite I have to admit and it's got nothing to do with summer, vacation or long walks at the beach. It is time for the Scrappy Awards. The time to open the champagne, get all dressed up and go to the Awards with your dream guy.

The categories this year are as follows
Best Photography on a Layout - The photo will be the main focus of the judges, but how the layout enhances it will be important.
Best Nature/Scenic Layout - Highlight your best outdoor photos with DSP's gorgeous nature inspired kits!
Best Journaling Layout - Both the journaling content and the overall look of the layout will be considered.
Best Paper style Layout - Paper Style looks like what a traditional paper scrapbook page would look like, with layers of papers and elements.
Best Graphic style Layout - Graphic Style uses blending modes and brushes or other techniques that makes it look like the entire layout is one layer.
Best Extraction Layout - Check out this Tutorial for more information on extracting.
Best Layout with NO Photos - NONE, not blended into the background, not anywhere!
Best 1-2 photo layout
Best Multiple photo layout - 3 or more photos on one page.
Best Double page spread - Post as one layout.
Best Fantasy Layout - Check out the Fantasy section in the DSP store for inspiration!
Best Art Journaling Layout - For more information on art journaling, read Tara's excellent explanation.
Best Heritage Layout - Celebrate photos from your past and of your ancestors in a gorgeous layout with DSP products!
Best use of a DSP Quick Click - All DSP Quick Clicks can be found HERE.
Best use of a SINGLE DSP kit
Best use of DSP Word Art - Any DSP Word Art can be used, from a Word Art collection or within a DSP kit.

I was excited to see that they've added a category for best layout with no photos. I know photos are such an important part of scrapping but so is journaling and expressing yourself creatively and now those that does that without using photos can have a chance at the Scrappies as well.

I first entered in the Scrappy Awards in 2008 with just a single layout and won. The encouragements that followed gave me courage to sign up for my first DET contest a few short months later. I entered with several layouts in both 2009 and 2010 and it is such a strange feeling to be on the other side of the event this year.

Picking the layouts to enter were half the fun and I was not one bit envious of the poor designers that had to judge the contest. This year I'll be one of those poor designers...

As for my date then most of you know by now that I'm not exactly the faithful type like most of the ladies attending the Scrappies are. I bring someone new every year and this year, inspired by the numerous re-runs of NCIS I've seen lately I'll be bringing Michael Weatherly. Since my husband don't really get the fuss about scrapbooking or award shows I'm confident he doesn't mind sitting this one out.

Tough job judging the entries or not I am really looking forward to this spectacular event. I hope you are as well.

PS. Don't forget it's the first Monday in the month which as always means it's Missed 'Em Monday at the store. Buy old products with up to 50% off their regular price. Happy shopping!
